Mobile Operating Systems

ShareThisI haven't come across very many really good articles this week. There have been the spate of Windows vs Linux articles to be sure and some of the authors have been fanboys while others have been detractors. I am not sure whether Linux will ever become the desktop operating system that Microsoft Windows has been because we're at a paradigm shift in computing from desktop to cloud or "cloud like" computing. Recently I purchased a Blackberry Curve from Verizon for my own personal use.

In the cloud

ShareThisAt work our administrative team are pondering tablet PCs.They're nice and maybe even okay. Maybe it'll help these folks to be more productive. I'm not too interested in tablets or even desktops anymore as I see the present and future moving to cloud computing. More and more desktops and desktop applications will be hosted within data centers that exist within clouds.
Everything is moving to the cloud. As we enter the third decade of the Web we are seeing an increasing shift from native desktop applications towards Web-hosted clones that run in browsers.

Paradigm change

ShareThisA couple of days ago I linked to a presentation that Bob Sutor presented at Linux World and that along with an article I read today on Wikinomics about how Web 2.0 applications might save businesses in current recession invited me to think of where we are going with what up to now has been called the desktop.

Open Office Rocks!

ShareThisThis morning is the end of summer school in Franklinville but one student had a problem. He's got a computer at home that Microsoft Works 4.0 installed on it and he came into our school where we have Microsoft Office 2000 installed for student use.
